Editing the author on free downloads?

On some of the free books I've downloaded, the author's name is not showing up. Is there any way I can edit something so that it shows up on the homepage?
I have a Kindle2, if that makes a difference.
Thanks!

Try importing the book into Calibre (which is a free download from http://calibre-ebook.com/). Assuming you can do that, right-click on the title, and select Edit meta information, and then Edit metadata individually.

You'll see a window where you can edit the author's name, the title, the publisher, and a few other things.

Note that the above applies to Calibre 0.6. In other versions, the method might be slightly different, but the overall approach will be the same.

It depends on the format of the book as well, but Calibre can handle all of the formats that are supported on a Kindle, so Mike L had it right there... if by chance you don't have or can't get Calibre to work or something like that, then your best bet is to try other software to edit the Metadata (as I said... it depends on the format of the books)

:-)
