Request: Close/quit behavior on mac
The close/quit behavior for calibre is very non-standard for Mac applications.
For mac it usually works like this: Cmd-Q = quit Cmd-W = close window but don't quit Click on red corner button = Cmd-W close window but don't quit But calibre kind of has it messed up Cmd-Q = quit Cmd-W = nothing Click on red corner button = Cmd-Q quit Most of the time I don't want to quit, I just want to close the window but leave it running but not visible so the book server can stay up. It'd be nice if it followed the usual mac conventions. |

They don't have a CONTROL key , even the antique KSR-33 (commonly used as minicomputer input terminal when they were not spewing AP wire service copy) had one of these. They don't have a Windows key Calibre uses QT5 toolkits for the GUI Windows does not have a Top and a Bottom when right-clickin' scroll bars. Calibre (and Sigil) do. Who is wrong?? Neither... Just different |

It's almost like you want a minimize button or something...
Or more likely, run a dedicated calibre-server instance via the CLI. Advantage: less resource-hungry. |

I expressly avoided using the terms right and wrong. I think most would agree that it is best practice to follow whatever conventions the host OS uses. It would be just as annoying if the Windows X button acted like the red Mac Close/X button. The only 'right' implementation is whatever the OS standard is, and the list in my post is where Calibre acts non uniformly on Mac.

This is not going to change. I want the close/quit behavior of calibre to be consistent across all OSes, since that reduces my support load not to mention that this behavior has been present in calibre for almost a decade. And since most calibre users do not use the content server, making it easier to quit calibre as opposed to hide its window makes perfect sense, in the common case.
If you wish to hide the main window and leave calibre running, simply right click on the calibre dock icon and choose Hide. |

If a minimize button is what truth1ness is after, then the answer is to click on yellow corner button instead of the red button. That will minimize to Dock.
Command-H will also Hide the program, same as right-clicking the Dock icon and choosing Hide, as Calibre Master Kovid suggests. |
