Seeking tech advice
I've been thinking of getting a 10" netbook that's really light enough that i can bring to school everyday without getting too bogged down by the weight.
any suggestions? it's mainly for schoolwork. |

What kind of schoolwork? If it's just word-processing, spreadsheets, and presentations it's a bit different than if you're coding or doing graphics manipulation and such.

My daughter seems pretty happy with her 10" Lenovo. I'm not sure how much it weighs, but the big trade-off is between battery life and weight. I think Lenovo has a good reputation as a nice solid machine.

We have an Eee PC in the store, don't know the exact size. Keep in mind that the keyboard is small and if you type with 10 fingers it's very hard to do so. For simple things as note taking I think it would be ideal.

The next step would be to go to the store and try them out from a usability perspective. Some of the smaller laptops, heck even the bigger ones have some oddities going on with keyboard layout that irk me a lot. find one that's least irksome in the price range.

Well I am pretty happy with my Dell Inspiron M5030 and I understand that the Loveno laptops are excellent laptops as well as well as the Toshiba laptops as well. So if you stick to these three brands I don ot think that you could go wrong if you tried.

For $500 you could get a full sized laptop, most mini's I've seen are under $300 which ones are you looking at?

I'm a big fan of 11.6" screens (my most-used computer is a Dell Inspiron 11z laptop); they are, for me, an ideal compromise between portability and usability. Alas, Dell have stopped making ANY machines with this size screen, which is a real shame.
