That depends on which epub plugin you've got.
If it's EPUBReader, then it should be on as default. I don't know what the others are like though. If it is EPUBReader and it's not on, then make sure you have the latest version and then: Open a book. Click on the Preferences (the cog symbol) in the bottom-left. Have a look at the Reading Style options there. Playing with them and the column count options should hopefully give you want you want.

True, but until he says which FF addon he's using, we don't know if it needs to go into the EPUBReader section or the more general reading devices section or possibly another section.
So I'm still inclined to answer the question as far as I can.
