Sony 300 too high a price in Canada

Why is the Sony 300 $80 more in Canada than the US? The CAD $ is only about 10% lower than the US. I was considering buying one but will maybe get an Aztec pocket pro instead which even with shipping will be alot less. Bad marketing strategy. They seem to think their beingl the only ones available in stores will get them sales. Speak up Canadians against this ripoff.

Doesn't Canada have a VAT? That could explain it becuase the US does not.

Only some provinces have VAT so that isn't the reason.

Canada doesn't have any VAT, they have PST and GST all added at the till not on the product directly. It's a ripe off. If I do go to a 600, I'll buy it in the US when we are there in October.

I emailed Sony about this last Saturday. So far only got an automated reply that the person is on vacation till the 18th.

And now they seem to have removed the 25$ Coupon offer for free ebooks with any new reader also. It was still up yesterday but now it's gone.

If I buy a sony I will buy one in the US but I am now leaning towards an Ezreader, just waiting to know if it will read ereader.com format.

Technically the GST is a form of VAT - but it's not usually called that, nor is it included in the sticker price of items.

Sony has lowered the price of the new ereader to $259 CA which is more palatable also has the coupon. Has lowered the price of 505 to $299

Sadly not the 600 though. $299 vs. $399 is criminal for an 8% exchange difference.
