Waiting
Some gave me an ereader for Christmas. A kindle with wifi. hmmmmm
the public library says it does not support these things. I suppose I could send it back when it arrives and get a Sony reader? Do I want to do that? What is this celbre thing I am going to need? ya think? Am I going to have to read the instruction manual? oh dear...... am I going to be able to put a graph...ie knitting or petit point on the thing and park it on a stand? It will arrive soon....complete with a cover that I hear causes stalls on the thing....or does it? |

I've never used a kindle before, but I can tell you that Calibre is a sort of third-party itunes-type program for ebooks(in the plainest terms possible. technically it's an e-book management program, but itunes for ebooks is easier for most people to figure out)
It's generally a good idea to read the instruction manual, yes, unless you prefer to puzzle things out on your own, and you're confident that you won't break something important I suppose that your public library might not carry the right format for a kindle. I've never borrowed an ebook from the library, as my library didn't have the service last time I had an ereader, but there might be a way for you to convert the files you get? someone correct me if that's wrong. You should be able to put images(graphs, or whatever you like) on your kindle, if I'm recalling correctly, but I don't believe the kindle has a color screen, if that's part of what you need. |

Welcome to the forum!
wrt library books on the kindle- your kindle will not natively support them. You would need to do some googling and find out how to strip DRM and then sideload them to your kindle. Some find it too complicated, some find it ethnically wrong and illegal, and some just don't want to bother. If you are set on reading library books on your ereader, Kindle may not be your best bet. I'm not sure sure about the diagrams and such you are wanting. You can use Calibre to convert the format to one easily read by your kindle, but I don't know how well graphs and such would transfer over. You'll definitely want to check out the Kindle Forum to talk to people who actually have kindles, but if it's just up to me, I'd say "yep, get a sony!" but I'm biased |

Good to have your company, Mango. I'm a Sony user, too, but Kindle has a great and enthusiastic following here. As Grace says, you'd do well to visit the Kindle-dedicated forum here for advice on Kindle-specific questions. Best wishes. Neil

I have given up on the Kindle. Can't buy Canadian authors, can't borrow things from the library....not without all kinds of hassle anyway. I guess if there is a book that I want and can't get on the Sony, I can always buy a paper copy.
So, I sent the thing back to Amazon and went hunting for a Sony and they are sold out all over town. go figure. anyway, it will show up in the mailbox eventually. or if I find one at the store before that....oh well. color me Sony and ticked that I can't get and use the wifi daily edition in Canada. oh well. I don't think 206 is a bad price to pay for the thing.... I don't want to buy books in the first place. Not very many of them anyway are worth keeping around on a shelf and dusting and rereading. if they are...well, paper will do nicely. if there is no other choice. |
