The Best-Selling ChatGPT Author for $0.99 on Amazon CA. A bit of an interesting read which—in places—is rather honest about the limitations of using ChatGPT. It's an assistant not a replacement. OTOH, the idea that using ChatGPT will enable you to churn out bestsellers does not seem to match up with reality.

Slaying the Dragon: A Secret History of Dungeons & Dragons by Ben Riggs published by St. Martin's Press is on sale for $2.99.
There are a number of histories of Dungeons & Dragons. To be honest, I'm not sure how this one compares. |

I get an embarrassing amount of the history I know from the "Historical Notes" at the ends of historical murder mysteries . With that said, I do read some regular old non-fiction history from time to time, and I spotted London, A Fourteenth-Century City and its People, by Kathryn Warner, a while back, while looking for something else. And thought it looked interesting. And put it on my eReaderIQ list. And now it is on sale in both the US ($1.99, discountable at Kobo) and the UK (£1.99). Woo-hoo...

This month's University of Chicago Press free ebook is
Reluctant Capitalists: Bookselling and the Culture of Consumption by Laura J. Miller “[Miller] uses the bookstore wars between independents and big chains to explore the ambivalence toward business values in the world of books and wider concerns about consumption and highly ‘rationalized’ systems of retailing.” —Chronicle of Higher Education |

This price drop is probably only for a few more hours, since I've been slammed, and didn't have time to check earlier. Lawrence of Arabia by Ranulph Fiennes is £1.99 in the UK as a Kindle Daily Deal, and matched at Kobo UK.
I've always had a bit of a thing for Lawrence after listening to Al Stewart introduce his song, League of Notions, in which Lawrence features prominently (see below), at a live concert, like only Al Stewart can. The relevant part of the lyrics: Quote:
So I'm happy to notice this biography on sale, especially since it's pretty new, and pretty expensive normally. So if you happen to notice this in the next couple of hours, and are interested, here you go... I have several other histories of Britain, including a couple still not yet read. So A History of Britain - Volume 1: At the Edge of the World? 3000 BC-AD 1603 by Simon Schama wouldn't normally really have caught my eye, even though it's on sale for £0.99. However, I occasionally get amused by the odd genres that Amazon books get put in, and right now, this one apparently is the #1 best-seller in "Religious History of Judaism". And on a serious note, the author seems legit, and the subject is interesting, and the ratings are pretty good, so here's the info...
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0069SP9JO Kobo UK: https://www.kobo.com/gb/en/ebook/a-h...itain-volume-1 Spoiler:
And now I'll have to put the author on my eReaderIQ list for the other two volumes... Last edited by sufue; Yesterday at 09:48 AM. |

Schama's extremely legit, on the serious shading to academic end of the popular historian spectrum. I've read two of his earlier books, An Embarrassment of Riches, about the Dutch Republic, and Citizens, a history of the French Revolution, and would recommend both.

Cool, because I just bought it, and it's loooong, even not considering that there are two more volumes , so nice to know it'll be a good read when I get to it...
