Anyone know of a good book on the history of film?

First up, the following suggestion is no help, but...

I've heard good things about David Stratton's (<---linky) autobiography/memoir, I Peed On Fellini (<---linky...BTW, the title is quite literal). David is Australia's pre-eminent movie critic. I don't know if it's available in ebook form.

Sorry this isn't what you asked for. Perhaps one for the TBR list?

Perhaps not exactly what you're asking for, though these essay collections would certainly also have a historical angle - and Ebert's an entertaining writer.

If you are specifically interested in the history of silent films I heartily recommend these books. They are all excellent.
