PRS-505 Degraded Screen Sharpness and Contrast

Hello All,
I have a Sony PRS-505. I bought this about 2.5 years ago. This device was left unused for the last 1 year and recently I charged it fully(I see the all the bars in battery image) and began using it. But was disappointed to notice that the screen sharpness and contrast has degraded pretty bad. I really have to have strain my eyes to see the faded screen and greyish fonts.

The other problem I noticed is that the every time I move to a new page some very faint ghost images of the previous page still remains, the refresh is not clean. This further degrades the quality of readability.

Is this because I left it for a long time (1+ years) with out using it ? or is this a known issue with the e-reader ? Are there ways to correct this problem or increase the contrast ?

Please help, I really want to know a way to revive this device and start using it once more.
