The Kobo Touch runs Linux anyway, doesn't it? If so, I'm surprised this isn't already available.

I'm just curious - has anybody received a response from JCKobo in the past couple of months? I sent a PM to him some 2 1/2 months ago and have yet to get a peep.
I finally had to figure a way to break the DRM encryption on the book I'd bought - find a link that actually downloaded the book, and load it in Calibre onto my Mobi app. |

From what I recall, JCKobo's responsibilities had changed at Kobo.

To the users making silly requests: Read the whole tread for links and instructions to install kobo-desktop.deb. Stop the Ubuntu mentality, nobody is gonna do it for you.

64-bit version
I'm running Kubuntu 11.10 64-bit ( and will likely be upgrading to 12.04 when it's released) on an Intel Core Duo CPU. I'd like to see a 64-bit version of the Kobo desktop, preferably one that will synch to my soon-to-arrive Kobo ereader.
The 32-bit .deb won't run on 11.10 - it complains that libzip1 is the wrong architecture, and an attempt to install the 32-bit version of libzip1 triggers removal of the existing 64-bit version. |

32 bit Kobo-desktop on 64-bit linux
I partially sorted the problem with Kobo complaining about libzip1, by symlinking to the 32 bit /usr/lib32/libz.so, as suggested elsewhere. Now Kobo starts up, but crashes while synching. When started from the command line, I now get the following output:

32 bit Kobo-desktop on 64-bit linux
Just had a "duh" moment. I just realized I had access to an up-to-date 32 bit Kubuntu 11.10 install, so I went in, copied the libzip1 files and put them in my 64-bit Kubuntu 11.10 machine's /usr/lib32 and symlinked to libzip1 in the /usr/local/Kobo directory. Kobo is now up and running on the 64-bit machine. I don't have my Kobo ereader yet, so I haven't been able to check the USB connection.

Interestingly enough I was able to use Kobo Desktop on 11.10 64bit but not without caveats. When I tried to install it it complained about missing libraries so I went through all motions till I hit a wall as everyone else, when it suggested to uninstall the whole bunch of 64bit libraries. However, when I tried to launch Kobo Desktop it worked fine and I had no problems with synchronising my Kobo Touch and restoring a book my daughted removed by mistake. The problem is that the package manager complains about a broken package and refuses to do anything until Kobo Desktop is removed.

open terminal, and run sudo gedit /var/lib/dpkg/status Search Kobo entry, somewhere down check line depends: Depends: libc6 (>= 2.4), libgcc1 (>= 1:4.1.1), libsdl-mixer1.2..... Remove everything after : so that line contains only Depends: (note that the line above is just an example, not real kobo depends: entry) |

has anyone managed to install kobo-desktop on Ubuntu 12.04 64bit? It looks that it has a different libzip library.
