I once saw a genuine sign "A Discount of 10% will be added to all orders".

ah, trying to get a few more readers hooked before book 4 is released in march. i'd say it's a good series for those into ms. bishop's other writing that will feel familiar but with a new world, a more modern one than the black jewel and ephemera novels.

This is generally classed as urban fantasy but it's set in an alternative earth I guess and has some great world building and is fun to read, no real romance and it''s much better than it's synopsis makes it sound.

Well yeah, by the math, but the prices never change and the quote doesn't either. So prices are actually 100% all the time.

It's been like that for a while, but I've never had any trouble with them charging me when they shouldn't.

I have a credit card on my Amazon account that gets plenty of activity, so I didn't have this problem.

There are quite a few places where Amazon require a credit card to get a free item or free trial including some where just a gift balance won't do.

The "pre-release" may have triggered this logic even for a free item or they may want address verification if your account has never has a credit/debit card attached.

AFAIK Amazon has always required a CC if the order was a pre-order, or at least I remember the question coming up here a few years ago.
