Phantom Members
Quite often when looking at the list of who is online I see "new" members with names like 124sntm5t. Note things like their eBook device of
qrstu20772. Can anything be done to spam proof the forums from entries like this (IDs I expect that are artificially inflating the number of registered users here). (Or 1rsuhr276l 2j08873vi 499ewdb5w 528prui8v) |

Alex, the forum owner, does have and continues to add, blocks, checks, stops, slow downs, etc., and still it is game for spammers to find a way in and share what is found. Moderators spend a combined, daily, amount of many hours just deleting spam. It is annoying, but we try hard to keep spam out and having members report spam really, really helps.

To repeat what dreams said - we mods appreciate any & all reports of suspected spammers - we will do the investigating and deal with them accordingly! You guys have NO idea of the numbers of spammers that try to "join" MR every day!

I asked our IT guy if we could open a blog for comments on one of our sites. He said we did and got 6,000 spams when he checked it next. He said the answer is NO.

I think the moderators do a great job keeping the spammers out of MR. You see that junk all over the place at Yahoo groups. Spam of all sorts that has no connection to what the group is supposed to be about. It's always pleasing to see a spam free site like MR.
