Can no longer send The Economist to Kindle Fire

I'm connecting my Kindle Fire to Calibre utilizing Mac OS X 10.7.4. I could previously download the Economist, have it automatically convert and send to the Kindle, but for some reason, I can't anymore. Sometimes it'll send to the Kindle, but if I open the document, there is no content there. Other times, it says there is failure in connecting to the Kindle, and won't send it at all.

I tried downgrading Calibre from 0.8.54 to 0.8.53, but nothing has helped. I have run Calibre in debug mode and the log is below:

That log is full of IOErrors, those indicate problems connecting to the device at the OS level. Try adifferent USB cable/port and/or resetting/reformatting your Kindle Fire.

As requested, I did reformat my Kindle Fire and reinstalled everything. I'm able to connect, upload/convert other documents in Calibre, but for some reason, I still can't get the newest issue of The Economist to convert and send over.

When trying to do so, I get the following error:

Any further thoughts? Maybe just an issue with this latest Economist, and try again once the new download is available friday?

It may be filesize related, is the economist very large?

It doesn't appear to be size related. The most current edition of the Economist is 2.9MB. I upgraded Calibre to the newest release (0.8.55), and downloaded the scheduled news source as always, and it's downloading.... But upon uploading to my Kindle Fire (which it wouldn't always do before), it's there, but with no content.

I tried putting last weeks' Economist "Morals and the machine" (4.5MB) on my Fire, it opened and I read a couple of articles, OK.

This whole thing is weird and frustrating, but I do really appreciate your help. At this point, do you think I should just completely wipe Calibre from my drive, and start over with it? Reformatting my Kindle doesn't seem to have done anything.

You can certainly try that, but I cannot see how it would make a difference. Just to be sure we are on the same page. You are using MOBI output in calibre, not AZW3 and you do not have the experimental tweak turned on for joint MOBI/KF8 output (if you dont know what that means, you most probably dont have it).

When I download the Economist, it downloads as an EPUB file. When I plugin my Kindle Fire, Calibre asks if I want to auto covert and upload it to the Kindle. Upon converting, it appears that Calibre is converting it to an AZW3 file. This file shows up on the Kindle, but as mentioned earlier, nothing is readable. Here's the log upon converting it to an AZW3:

I've tried to manually convert it as a MOBI file and upload to the Kindle, but I get a communication error. Here's the communication error I get:

Set your output format in Preferences->Behavior to MOBI and calibre will download news in the MOBI format.

I am having trouble receiving all my documents via email and my @kindle address (I have the fire). When I look on my Amazon account I see the "pending" deliveries. When I boot up the fire and press sync (which is automatic at boot up anyway) nothing gets delivered. Do you think, is it possible, Amazon has put the kabosh on newspaper deliveries via the @kindle.com address? I could try the USB sync but it was so convenient to have Calibre delivers these to me every morning before I was even awake.

i contacted amazon via chat. they suggested a reboot. I actually never knew how to do a reboot. Power it down. plug it in. turn it on and I get the option not for restart but for shutdown. I shutdown and restarted. it took a while but my "pending deliveries" including the economist arrived.
