Not authorized for the eBook Store

Hi everybody,

I have my new PRS-505 since a few hours and I was looking around in the menus.

In the "Settings" menu, by curiosity I looked in "About" and ,in front of the big SONY log I found:

Version 1.1.00.18040
Device 0800461000A2BO6A
Not authorized for the eBook Store

What does that mean?

And if it means that I cannot download books from the eBook Store, why would that be...... and can it be changed.

Thanks in adavance for your feedback.

JP

Don't worry my comrade, what happens is that the sony reader needs to be authorized to the ebook store after you create your account, it is normal that it says it is not authorized because its a brand new unit, you can use the register option at the top of the ebook store that you can access trough the software and make your account active, then you can click where says my account at the top and to the bottom of that menu you'll find the option to authorize it if the system dos not detect it automatically. Have a good reading!

Thanks a lot.

Now whats left is to somehow buy "giftcards" to access the US ebook shop.
I live in Europe and read in French and English.

Do they not understand that some people like to read in different languages..... but one can only buy on US ebook with a US or Canadian credit card...

It's not a language issue, it's mostly a copyright thing. The ebooks may be authorized to sell in the US, but not elsewhere. Even Canadians have this issue.

yes that's right, but you can try to download the books from the new promotion of google classics with which you can access around 500,000 books for free, there is a lot of items on several different languages, hope this will help you.

Regards

Or you can buy from other sources, Fictionwise, BooksOnBoard, Baen ... and convert (if needed) to ePub or LRF using Calibre.

Hi, please refer to the flea market section; there are a number of forum members who very generously are willing to buy Sony's Gift Cards for us european residents.

Kind regards,

Tracey
