Danke, ravenne, für den Tipp mit dem Trailer. Hab ihn auch grade angeschaut und bin nun sehr froh, dass ich die Geschichte lesend erfahre und nicht via Film. Im Buch kann ich die (für mich - aber ich bin ja auch kein SciFi-Anhänger ) allzu futuristischen Dinge etwas ausblenden und mich auf den menschlichen Teil konzentrieren, im Film würde das erheblich schwerer fallen.

Die Art, wie Ender eiskalt benutzt wird, finde ich schlimm. Andererseits habe ich bisher nicht den Eindruck, dass er wirklich unglücklich ist, abgesehen von den eher seltenen Heimwehmomenten. Bin jetzt ungefähr in der Mitte angelangt.

Der Trailer legt nahe, dass vor allem auf Action-Geballer gesetzt wurde. Das Buch hat für mich (bin jetzt auch etwa bei der Hälfte) einen ganz anderen Schwerpunkt, hier geht es mehr darum, wie Ender sich versucht in diesem System zurecht zu finden. Alles geht nur um den Sieg und Ranglistenpositionen, also ein beständiger Wettberwerb untereinander.

Ich bin jetzt im 11. Kapitel.

Ender hat gerade sein erstes Kommando erhalten und war natürlich siegreich. Die Schlachtszenen finde ich persönlich nicht so interessant. Die innere Auseinandersetzung mit seinem Kommando finde ich da weit interessanter. Ich verstehe jetzt auch warum dieses Buch in dem United States Marine Corps als Empfehlung ausgesprochen wird.

Im 9. Kapitel tauchen auch Valentine und Peter wieder auf, hatte mich schon gefragt, wann dies geschieht. Ich bin sehr gespannt, wie dieser Strang weitergeht. Peter wirkt ja schon sehr bedrohlich.

Auch wenn Ender eigentlich der Held der Geschichte ist muss ich sagen das ich ihn nicht unbedingt sympathisch finde. Er tut mir zwar leid, aber andererseits neigt er auch zu Überreaktion und Selbstmitleid. Da das sonstige Leben in der Battle School nur am Rande angeschnitten wird (was passiert im "normalen" Unterricht, beim Sport und sonst ausserhalb des Battle-Rooms) frage ich mich wie sein Verhalten in diesen Situationen ist das ihn keiner leiden kann.

Harrison Ford als Graff kann ich mir eigentlich ganz gut vorstellen, ich frage mich nur ob er im Film auch so zunimmt. Warum hat man Ben Kingsley eigentlich diese lächerlichen Tattos verpasst?

Ich finde hier ist auch einer der Schwächen des Buches zu erkennen, so richtig erkennt man die Motivation der Schüler nicht. Warum ist es so wichtig in der Rangliste zu führen? Klar kann man das vielleicht mit einem Sportverein vergleichen, wo man auch in der Tabelle oben stehen möchte, aber nicht jeder Spieler entwickelt da die gleiche Motivation. Warum gibt es da keine Weigerung oder Schüler, die aussteigen möchten. Mir ist das nicht ganz klar geworden

Endlich lehnt sich Ender gegen die Lehrer auf, aber das geschieht erst an dem Punkt, wo es auch keine Möglichkeit mehr gibt weiterzumachen. Schnell wird hier die ganze Situation beendet.

Im Gespräch mit Valentine wird klar, wie stark sich Ender verändert hat, gerade in der einfachen Geste, bei der er die Wespe tötet. Hier ist er mir keinesfalls mehr sympathisch. Ich bin weiter gespannt, wie sich Peter und Valentine entwickeln. Gibt es eine Umkehr der anfänglichen Rollen? Es bleibt spannend.

Ich sehe schon, ich muss schneller lesen. Oder Urlaub nehmen, damit ich mehr Zeit habe Ich bin noch nicht so weit wie ihr, erst bei 35%. Ich finde den Ender allerdings auch nicht unbedingt sympathisch. Noch hat er den Mitleidsbonus, aber ob der noch lange anhält, scheint mir fraglich.

Ich kann mir übrigens gar nicht so richtig vorstellen, dass es hier wirklich um 6-jährige geht. In meiner Vorstellung sind die Charaktere irgendwie älter. Keine Ahnung, woran das liegt. Verdrängung? Ich fand den Ender im Trailer deshalb auch eher jung als alt.

Ich bin nun erst zu Beginn des Buchs, ich bin gerade dabei mich damit anzufreunden. Ich denke was Du da ansprichst ist eine berechtigte Frage. Denn die sechs- bis zehnjährigen in dem Buch agieren und sprechen so wie dreissigjährige Soldaten oder Offiziere.

Ich verstehe nicht so ganz was das soll und ich hoffe dafür gibt es eine Erklärung durch das Buch selber. Vielleicht ist das ein Bestandteil der utopisch-dystopischen Handlungssituation. Falls es eine solche literarische Erklärung nicht geben sollte muss man sich mit dem Buch nicht weiter beschäftigen.

Allgemein ist es ein Problem das in konsumorientierten Unterhaltungsmedien (und dieses Buch zählt bis auf weiteres für mich dazu) Kinder nicht mehr als Kinder in ihren individuellen Entwicklungsschritten dargestellt werden.

Kinder sind dann nur körperlich kleinere Erwachsene. Die Entdeckung und die Förderung der Kindheit als innerweltlichen Zustand ist eine kulturelle Errungenschaft der Neuzeit. Medien (Bücher, Filme, Musikstücke) die kulturelle Werte offen ablehnen beschäftigen sich damit nicht weiter. Denn es geht vordergründig nur um die Unterhaltung des Konsumenten.

Wenn man dieses Buch als Theaterstück aufführen würde müsste man Ender und seine Bekannten wohl durch Schauspieler darstellen die ihre Pubertät schon lange hinter sich haben, damit das sinnlich dargebotene auch nur ansatzweise glaubhaft erscheint.

Ich bin mir nur noch nicht sicher ob das ein berechtigter literarischer Kunstgriff des Autors ist für den es eine Erklärung gibt.

Ich glaube eher das die Protagonisten bewusst so jung gewählt sind damit der Charakter formbar bleibt. Was für Auswirkungen das aber auf Ender hat sieht man dann auf den letzten Seiten des Buches...
Da Ender und auch die anderen Kadetten zumindest überdurchschnittlich intelligent sind gestehe ich ihnen gerne einige Jahre an geistiger Reife mehr zu als ihrem Alter entspricht, somit wären wir dann ja etwa bei 10 Jahren die A. Butterfield mit seinen 16 Jahren vielleicht gerade noch hinbekommt.
Dazu kommt dann noch die strenge militärische Ausbildung und das Leben in einer sehr begrenzten Umgebung in der kein Wert auf Kunst, Kreativität oder soziale Umgangsformen gelegt wird - da kann ich mir schon vorstellen das keine Persönlichkeit entsteht wie wir sie von unseren eigenen Kindern (hoffentlich) kennen

OK, das ist schon mal eine Erklärung die mir irgendwie plausibel erscheint.

Ich bin schon ein wenig neugierig wie es weitergeht. Ich bin allerdings auch ziemlich misstrauisch dem Buch gegenüber, das gebe ich zu. Alleine schon der Einstiegsplot vom jungen Weltenretter, der langwierig von seinem Auserwähltsein überzeugt werden muss erinnert mich etwas zu stark an Harry Potter und die Matrix-Filme.

Aber vermutlich ist das gängig in Science-Fiction-Büchern in denen man nicht einfach nur kontemplativ im All herumschwebt.

Bei allem was ich dazu schreiben muss man eben bedenken das ich solche Bücher eigentlich nicht kenne, ich lese das nun nur wegen Euch. Beim nächsten Sience-Fiction-Buch würde ich mich allerdings freuen wenn das ein eher philosophisches Buch wäre wie Stanisław Lem oder etwas vergleichbares. Gerade in der Sowjetunion und in den Staaten des Warschauer Packts wurde Science Fiction anscheinend genutzt um utopische Gegenentwürfe zur damaligen Realität exemplarisch dazustellen. Das sind dann Bücher die sicherlich auch von literarischem Interesse sind und gleichzeitig wohl auch unterhaltsam und gut zu lesen sind. Das ist mein persönlicher Eindruck als völliger Nicht-Experte zu diesem Themenbereich.

Das geht in die richtige Richtung, aber nicht weit genug. Eins der Steckenpferde von Card sind Kinder mit Höchstbegabung, wie wenig sie in unser normales "Kindchenschema" passen, und welchen Bärendienst wir ihnen erweisen, wenn wir versuchen, sie "einfach nur Kind sein" zu lassen. Wie recht er damit hat, darüber kann man vielleicht streiten, aber aus der Perspektive sollte man das Ganze betrachten: Ender ist nicht nur überdurchschnittlich intelligent, der Junge ist ein Genie in dem Bereich, wo es keinen Sinn mehr macht, den IQ in Zahlen ausdrücken zu wollen. Und trotzdem ist er formbar, wie alle Menschen und insbesondere Kinder.

Es ist tatsächlich so das genau der Punkt den ich angesprochen habe vom Autor in der Einführung zur amerikanischen Ausgabe des Buchs thematisiert wird. Wenn man sich die Leseprobe der amerikanischen Ausgabe auf Amazon besorgt kann man dort die Einführung vollständig lesen.

Die Argumentation läuft darauf hinaus das der Autor die Empfindungen und Entscheidungen seiner kindlichen Protagonisten als genauso real und weitreichend empfindet wie die von Erwachsenen und deshalb diese Form der Darstellung gewählt hat.

Das erklärt allerdings überhaupt nicht weshalb er sie als Erwachsene darstellt. Ich denke niemand hat jemals kindliche Wahrnehmungen und Empfindungen als "unreal" bezeichnet. Im Gegenteil.

Naja egal. Für mich ist das eine wichtige Frage da ich zu Beginn des Buchs den Eindruck hatte mit einer gewissen Ideologie konfrontiert zu werden, die mit kulturellen Werten wie man sie in Mitteleuropa als üblich betrachtet nicht in Einklang zu bringen ist. Dieser Eindruck hat sich nach der Lektüre der Einleitung bestätigt. Aber wenn man weiss woran man ist dann kann man damit auch umgehen.

@Medard

Vielleicht legst du da zu viel Bedeutung hinein. Jetzt nachdem ich durch bin, erscheint mir die ganze Geschichte als etwas zu lang geratene Kurzgeschichte. Vieles wird nicht weiter ausgeführt, bzw. werden Handlungsstränge am Ende kurz zusammengefasst. Nicht alles ist wirklich durchdacht.

Insgesamt ist es für mich daher eine recht enttäuschende Lektüre, vielleicht waren die Erwartungen aufgrund der erhaltenden Preise zu hoch gewesen. Das ganze Kriegsspiel hat mir wenig gefallen, wobei das Ende da noch bei mir etwas gut gemacht hat, da es zumindest eine Überraschung bot.

@Gudy

Hast du eigentlich die weiteren Romane auch gelesen?

Speaker for the Dead ist zwar auch nicht ohne Längen, füllt diese aber m.E. besser aus und hat zumindest mich deutlich mehr zum Nachdenken gebracht.

Wenn ich das Vorwort meiner Ausgabe richtig verstanden habe war "Enders Game" ganz ursprünglich auch nur eine Kurzgeschichte die dann in zwei Schritten zu der heutigen Version umgearbeitet wurde.
Die letzten 5-10 Seiten des Buches empfand ich auch als das Beste im ganzen Buch, die letzten drei Seiten hatten sogar ein "Kalt den Rücken runter" Gefühl.
Werde als nächstes "Speaker of the Dead" lesen, darauf bin ich nun echt gespannt...

Geht mir auch so, das Ende ist bei weitem interessanter als die Geschichte vorher.

Wir machen das so, du liest die Fortsetzung erstmal und berichtest dann.
