No on e is perfect, but one big reason I need an editor is more for my brain autocorrecting to what I KNOW I wrote, rather then what I wrote. If that makes any sense.

Part of what I do in my daily life is interpret/translate ancient languages and I look at it from several levels, simular to what you list:


1) What the author intended
2) What the gramar/vocab means
3) What the intended audience would have understood it to mean
4) What I think it means (assuming Im not #3)

I strive to reach 1, but with out the author to ask that can be impossible, still you do the best you can. Same basic idea I think applies here.
