Device: iliad or prs-505 - not quite sure yet
Question my favorite pdfs readable on iliad?

hello friends.

finally i want to decide, whether the prs-505 or the iliad suits me better.

having a library of hundreds of pdfs, that i love quite much, it is kind of important for me to know, if those can be read easily on the iliad.

otherwise i guess that i'd have to convert all these files. so that the readability would have to be alike for the prs and the iliad (not having respected the effect of display size).

those pdfs are all layouted in about the same way.

so could somebody please help me and check out one of those on his iliad?

here is the link for the example-file:

Attached are 3 screenshots:
[1] I zoomed a little bit [removed some of the margin]
[2] full screen mode [now font size is okay for me]
[3] rotated document (90°), continuous mode

The sony prs-505 has got a pdf reflow fuction, but don't ask me for details.

Hi

So you have one more option to choose.

I have made a little quick and dirty conversion to mobipocket format of your example file: mainly cropped headers and footers in acrobat 8 (who just create confusion n theis format as they do not relate to the page where they will be showing), and then imported it with mobipocket reader - time to do it, less the five minutes.

I think it’s quite readable, even if some times the import goes a little crazy with the size and space between letters in a paragraph or two.

I bet with Calibre you can do the same.

Best regards,

Smile thanks

hello yokos, hello harriman

first i'd like to thank you for checking things out.

those screenshots on the iliad screen give me a useful impression; the pdf looks okay on the iliad, i think.

but this mobipocket converted file is kind of more appealing to read.
i downloaded mobipocket creator now and i am very happy with the results.

also tried a conversion with calibre. the results ain't that appealing as the ones of mobipocket creator but i found a way to make the mobipocket results technically okay for prs. piping the html file from the mobipocket creator output into calibre.

well, now i am awaiting the device. just ordered a prs-505. iliad is too expensive for me. and prs seems to be more robust to me. want to take it with me, travelling.

Hi robiall

With the new firmware of the 505 who can reflow PDF’s I think you will even not need to make any conversion to most of the PDF’s you want to read.

Anyway, congrats to your choice and enjoy.
