Hide e-book uploads from 'Latest Forum Activity'?
On the frontpage, since e-book uploads already have their own dedicated column ('Latest E-Books'), would it be possible to hide them from the 'Latest Forum Activity'?

Why would you want to do that? You might miss a book that sounds interesting that you might want to read.

I agree with TadW that it should be more separated somehow, there's already the possibility to list only the uploads and to list both uploads/topics. Another option to list the topics only should improve the overall experience. |

This post prompted me to go to the home page for the very first time. Separating the e-book uploads into its own subsection has "filtered" these when starting (as I do) at the MobileRead Forums page.
I do have a related request though. It would be nice to have the option of filtering e-book uploads (or in fact any subset of the forums) from the "New Posts" search, as can be done already for advanced searches. If fine grained filtering is difficult, then just filtering of uploads would be helpful. This would simplify getting a quick overview of what is new in the e-book world. |

The E-books section could work a bit like an aggregator too for new releases.
Using these 2 RSS for example: http://www.feedbooks.com/discover/rss http://manybooks.net/index.xml We've seen quite a few search engines for e-books lately, but no real aggregator. |

I never look at the uploads. I have more books than I can read, but I did download two and they are beautiful. TadW is right, their presence in threads drastically complicates browsing since more than half are ebooks. If you're an editor or someone continually hooked to the site, it doesn't bother. if you're someone who comes back after 10 hours to rummage through the 150 updated material it can get tedious. But when you're not there for two days, it's downright daunting. You get to scroll scroll and scroll again.
@ Alex. Do you think it would be feasible to duplicate the blue menu bar at the top to put one at the bottom right over the Quick Reply box? It would be nice to access it without scrolling back up. |

I agree, it would be a shame to miss an interesting title if it was filtered completely; not to mention all the hard work people are giving toward the effort. How's this for a compromise; why not have the "New Posts" be split into posts & uploads? That way if we're looking for something new to read we won't have to go through the latest posts, or if we simply want to see what the new chatter is all about, we can shorten our "Last 24 hours" to a page and a half or so.
This is just a suggestion, while I'm sure it's possible, I am not sure how much work would be involved to actually implement it. I don't mind them as they are, as I simply scan forum topics and jump in on whatever peaks my interest. |

The best solution if it can be done is to have an All new posts as it is now and an all new posts without books to filter out the books. And the other one 24 hours etc. would till be as is.
Then you can see the new books if you want. Just have to see if this is something that can be done. |

Now, there is still the 'Latest Forum Activity' view on the frontpage which I often use for tracking discussions. When you upload a book, it shows in the right 'Latest E-Books' column. Can it thus be filtered out from the discussion view? |

@yvanleterrible: Do you mean putting the navigation bar in the bottom on top of the quick reply box? If yes, is there something in the bar that you need to regularly access? (nevermind, I just saw your PM ) |
