Does this mean DG is getting older at warp speed? For every Happy Birthday wish she gets, she ages a few months or something?
And I'll pass on the cake, but I'll take some ice cream and a brownie or chocolate chip cookie please! |

Happy Birthday To Me!!
65 and still kicking!
I gotta be one of the oldest one here.......but happy to be alive and see all the marvelous advancements that have been made over the years.. Do you realize when I was born, WWII had been over for only 3 years? this is what a telephone looked like....calling long distance was so expensive it was prohibitive for most, you had to dial "0" for operator and she had to put the call thu....the thing stayed in a little cubby built into walls especially for it. There was a public pay phone booth on just about every corner, (in gas stations and stores too!)......and local calls cost 5 cents. Now I walk around with a little gadget 3"x5" in my pocket and can talk immediately to anyone I like anywhere in the world simply by pushing a few buttons....and don't even get me started about texting, or sending pictures, or swiping to pay for a coffee..... Everyone have a wonderful day!! |

Happy Birthday desertgrandma.
I've only been here a short while, but your avatar always makes me smile when I see it. ABBA and Bill the Cat are just a great combination. |

Happy Birthday desertgrandma. I agree with you that a lot has changed the last few decades. I'm only 42 but I can remember a time when there were no computer games and writing a letter involved real paper and ink rather than sending an email. Postage stamps were .10 when I was a kid and as far as telephones my paternal grandmother had an old rotary dial one that was part of a party line (she was born in 1900).

Happy Birthday desertgrandma.
I remember party lines and rotary dial phones. You had to count the rings to figure out who the incoming call was for. |

My grandma caught me on her party line once. One of the old ladies on the phone kept on saying "who is this" and I'd say "it's me." Of course I was 3-4 yrs old at the time. After that grandma got me a toy telephone so I'd leave hers alone.

^Nice. My three year old won't accept pale toy imitations though. He has to answer the real phone all the time. I can't complain since most of the calls are from telemarketers and the grandparents love him.
