Red charging light, but not charging.

Hi,

My ebook has moments where it will charge and some when it won't. Like for example, the sony store people told me to just use a USB charging device to charge it. Okay, so I do and it works sometimes. Sometimes however, the red light will go on, but not charge...it just goes to the starting up screen and than says low battery. Do you think there is something wrong with my ebook?

Certain usb ports do not supply enough power to properly charge the Reader. The best and fastest way to charge is to use a wall/mains charger. If you live in the U.S. and live near a GameStop retail store, go in and ask for a used PSP charger. They will usually cost between $7 - $8.

Not sure if by "USB charging device" you mean something that plugs into the USB port on your Reader and AC on the other end. If this is what you mean, it most likely will NOT work with the Reader. In fact it could be draining power. As Grooks said, get a PSP charger. That'll plug into the little yellow port on your Reader and to AC power on the other end. That will work to charge your Reader correctly.

You got bad advice from the Sony Store. "Dumb" USB chargers (e.g. cell phone charger with USB plug) often don't charge the 505. As noted above, use a PSP-type charger for best results. Otherwise you can connect your USB cable to a running computer's powered USB port. If it recognizes the reader it will also charge your reader, though slower and only if the PC is left on.

Hey there, I have a problem with my Sony Reader PRS-600 where my laptop or desktop won't recognise the device and says "USB not recognised" as an erro message. Everything worked out of box to set up and download ebooks etc and recharge but now it's not seeing the device via USB ?

Any ideas?

Thanks, Dan
