CJ Cherryh is in the process of setting up her own Ebookshop (called Closed Circle) so that she can sell her ebooks to her readers.

Nice idea! Would be great if any programmer might create an out-of-the-box solution for an affordable price for an author's online shop with customer log-in, rating system and the option to offer downloads in multiple formats.
This may encourage other authors to give self-publishing a try without worrying too much about a software solution.

It would be better if there was a sort of "one-site-for-them-all", where authors could "publish" their books to. That way, we, the users, don't have to register every site! The owner of the site would take a small percentage to keep the site up and running and upgrade the software if needed.

Hmmmm...sounds great...lets give it an name. 'Uitgeverij' would be a nice one. For the people who don't speak Dutch it literaly translates as: Hand it Out place

The idea of an ebook coop has been bantered about on this site for quite a while. But some authors do not want the additional chores of managing the sales of their work and rely on agents, most often publishing houses, to just bring in the bacon. Most are artists and have no salesmanship talent. To each his own.

I don't see why they couldn't. When you download a DRM-protected LIT book from FW, for example, it's "personalised" with your order number.
