By the way, my last name is "Pospischil" which has, if I remember right, some Czech roots (without 'ch') Prague is also a wonderful city, I had the honor to be there. Thanks a lot Pavel for your contribution Axel |

It does.
There are occasional glitches, usually with character sets, but it handles the format more or less okay. .mobi/.prc format is not fully documented so some files can be troublesome. |

This is the answer about the lifecycle of propretary, device and manufactor dependent software So I am glad to see they go with standards now: HTML5 and CSS. Cheers |

How many HTML5/CSS ebook readers are actually in use out there? (Aside from the proprietary-as-heck Kindle FIRE?) Let's not get carried away with "standards" fever, okay? Hyped "Standards" come and go, but it is the useful stuff that survives. Last edited by fjtorres; 02-13-2012 at 05:58 PM. |

The point was that the mobi format is proprietary, so you won't see any new books in this format from anyone since the owner decided to retire it.
On the other hand, HTML5/CSS are open and anyone can use them to create a book or a reader. |

You sure? Publishers and retailers are going to turn their backs on millions of users just like that? Me, I doubt it. For now there is at least one commercial ebook publisher that is dropping 4-6 new ebooks in mobi, pdb, lrf, lit, and other allegedly dead formats. And Calibre and Mobigen are out there allowing cration and conversion. Several online ebook creation services also support mobi/prc/azw. Mobi format isn't being retired; the format is alive and well. The only thing being retired is the traditional mobi *DRM*. And that isn't relevant to DRM-free apps like coolreader. Careful with the "standards" kool-aid; entire companies have died betting on "standards". |

Mmm, I've nothing against the .mobi format, and if indeed only the DRM part is proprietary as is suggested by those apps that can convert and create then indeed only DRMed .mobi books will die out.
Taking that as a given though, there is no reason to assume that an open format won't succeed if chosen, look at the .epub format for example its foothold has been growing constantly and at heart it is just html/css in a compressed form. This isn't the "standards" kool-aid, its the 'open format' kool-aid, and everyone who could care less about drm is on it. No one in their right mind would pay licensing fees to create a book or a reader for a proprietary format without compelling reasons and the only significant reason was drm. |

Not sure if this was brought up before... Sometimes when I press the back page button instead of going back a page the coolengine will flip on and readjust.....resulting in the font size changing from 36 to 42...... it works fine but has the glitch....any suggestions?

According to Antuan in the russian forum, a new version of Coolreader is planned for next week, with the support of embedded fonts in EPub files.
