Conversion Problem

Hi,

I'd greatly appreciate any help on this problem. I usually have no problems converting epub to mobi in Calibre. I usually do not change any of the default options. However, I have three epub files that will not convert to mobi, and I'm not sure why. Again I am using all the default conversion options in Calibre. I'm attaching my log file from the botched conversion. Each time I try -- with each of the three epub files that will not work -- the conversion process reaches 47% and then stalls.

Spoiler:
Convert book 4 of 6 (Ender's Shadow)

It is not stalling it is still working. If it hasn't actually stopped with an error message have patience and let it run.

I'm a little skeptical though... usually a book conversion takes about a minute or two. I can watch the progress bar go from 0% to 100%, and I can watch the ETA get smaller and smaller until it's done. In the case of these three books, the progress bar makes definite progress until 47% and then stops making any further progress. Additionally, the ETA actually starts to increase! The highest it's gotten before I stopped it was around 3 hours. Something is definitely wrong with these three books...

I have seen books convert in a few Minutes.
quite a few take 10 to 15 Minutes.
a small selection take hours
and Some, will take over a DAY

All on the same P4 3.2GHz w/800MHz FSB and 2G RAM (and JUST me playing Freecell or viewing MR while I wait )

Simply wait for it to Crash (or get done )

BTW IMHO Having Heuristics ON adds to the time. in most cases, the results are worth it.

Alright, guess I'll just let it run til it crashes then. I'm a little curious to see how many days this will last...

Just a comment based on the job details you posted.

Your source epub appears to contain 6 css files. This is more than average - many only have 1. There is nothing wrong with a 6-css epub, but it may be the reason the conversion is taking a long time - lots of work to do

Ok, so I let the conversion run for 36 hours. There is definitely something wrong, somewhere. Like I said before, it gets to 47% -- very quickly -- and then stops making any progress at all. In a few minutes each of these three books gets 47% converted, but then in 36 hours they fail to get even another 1% converted?? Something doesn't add up. Still no error message, no crashing. And only those three books. I think my solution will be simple: give up on reading those books!

I'm having sort of the same problem converting to mobi except after the conversion to mobi starts it runs about a minute and Calibre shuts down. Below I opened three books, everything fine. Then started convert and shut down happened.
