UK owner of original PRS500 - UK waterstones ebooks - won't load on it

Looking for help/advice/common stories...

I purchased my Sony PRS 500 when they first came out in US, I am in the UK. Since then I have been lucky enough to have a member on here purchase evouchers for me, so that i can buy books from Sony connect.

With the release of the Sony PRS in UK, and the offerings of ebooks from Waterstones, I thought I would be able to buy them from here and load them.... this is not the case... I bought a ebook to try it with first.. but the format will not load onto PRS - i can get it into the library, but won't transfer. It is in a different format: EPUB. Whereas the ones already on my PRS are all BBeB...

Any ideas?

I am afraid I do not have good news for you.

You will not be able to open epub files using your PRS 500
Only the newer version - PRS505 can open that new format.

There was a discussion here about Sony contemplating providing firmware update for older Reader model - PRS500. We have written to Sony and asked for firmware update.
Sony told us, it is impossible to provide epub reading software for PRS500.
Instead they initiated a trade-in offer. If you return your old PRS 500 you receive $100 credit for buying new PRS 505. The offer is only valid in USA.

ahh that is a real shame! why would they do that. Looks like I will still have to get the vouchers then. At least on the sony store there is more content, more offers, and the books seem cheaper. Thank you for the quick response

If you're using a PC running Windows, you might consider buying LIT format eBooks from stores like FictionWise or BooksOnBoard. They have a good range of titles, often better prices than Sony, and LIT books can trivially be converted to Sony's LRF format.

I second this, just started doing it and it's pretty quick and straight forward.
