How many books have you read in 2009?
Someone on another board I was on wanted to have a 50-book challenge for 2010. I was curious if I read that many this year, so I did a quick scan through my Delicious bookmarks, and my total for 2009 (so far, there are a few days yet) is...
81 books! Granted, some of them were YA books (there was a 9-book series I read) but for the most part, these were full novels. I am a bit of a speed reader (I have always read fast) and have found that if it's 400 pages or less on the reader, I can read it in a day easily, and if it's in the 700 range, I can read it in two days. I can generally get through 50 pages on a half-hour bus ride. Of those 2009 books... 11 were tagged 'favourite' 28 were tagged 'great' 19 were tagged 'good' 16 were tagged 'fair' 7 were tagged 'poor' So, how many books did you read? |

I've read about 45 books this year. I rarely read short stories and the typical novel is about 400 - 500 pages. I usually finish a book every 1 - 1 1/2 weeks.

I was on leave for the first time since the 4 weeks I was off after having my 19 year old. Being off for 3 months this summer gave me a big advantage on volume for 2009. I'm up to 128 books and still have a few days to devour another book or two.
All that reading time made me think I need to find an obnoxiously rich man who is very generous, likes to travel and buy his significant other (me) ebooks! LOL |

136, but I'm counting volumes of manga in that.
If I took those out, I'd have about 90 novels, short story collections, and technical books. Best year I've had for reading in years - my kindle really revitalized my desire to just turn off the tv/dvd player and read. Michael |

Define "books." I read a lot of fanfic, including novel-length and series-of-novels collections.
Are "books" only those publications that have ISBN numbers, or should I count anything longer than 50,000 words as a book? (Rhetorical question. I certainly haven't been keeping count; I just know I've read a lot.) |

The year hasn't ended yet, but so far I've read 263 books (ok, some are trashy novels that are quick reads, but they're still full length novels). And I'm probably going to finish a few more books before January 1st.

I read very slowly, as English is my second language... Not really an excuse, because I don't think I would be reading any faster in Danish (my mother tongue).
The more memorable ones: Pillars of the Earth The Touch World without End Dragged into the Darkness Morgan's Run Oliver Twist Pompeii Just some of the ones I remember.. I have no desire to be in a competition... |

As of today, I've read 210 books. My goal this year was to read 200, so I'm very happy. For 2010 I'm hoping for 250.
