Use Calibre to convert the book to PMLZ. Unzip the resulting file and extract the file named index.pml. Then convert that to an eReader PDB using dropbook.

Calibre can convert directly to PDB, but there have been reports of problems with that on some readers. Anything produced using dropbook will work though.

As always, quality of the output depends on that of the input.

On a Mac, what can I use to unzip that PMLZ file? I noticed double-clicking it doesn't seem to work, indicating there isn't anything on the system already recognizing that extension.

You're right about direct PDB through Calibre being a problem. Although programs like eCub retain italics with no problem for ePub editions, Calibre drops all of our italics for PDB. VERY annoying. So, I'm looking for a new compiler.

Ah, Macs...

You could use 7zip to extract it, or open a terminal and use the 'unzip' command.

Since you have a Kindle, why do you want PDB (eReader format)? Why not use Calibre to convert to Mobipocket?
