Young Adventures by - Harry Collingwood

You know C. S. Forester, Patrick O'Brian, Douglas Reeman (writing as Alexander Kent)? When those guys were kids they were reading Harry Collingwood.

Well, okay. I can't actually prove that. But if they weren't, they should have been!

You could accuse Harry Collingwood of telling the same six stories over and over again, and you would have a point. It's all pirates and privateers, broadsides and boarding, shipwrecks and maroonings. But when the salty yarns are spun so well the familiarity just adds to the pleasure. Collingwood not only has that nautical jargon down cold, he also describes the scene in such detail that the reader can truly be immersed in the setting. And he does this without slowing the action down one whit. Don't ask me how; if I knew how to do that I'd be writing for a living!

I made an attempt to organize the extensive Collingwood catalog by similar subject matter. All of these titles are available at Project Gutenberg, with many of them also living here at MobileRead. Mr. Collingwood (actually William Joseph Cosens Lancaster) mustered out in 1922, so no copyright worries here. Enjoy!
