Nothing to do with the title. I see the problem too--but only on chapter 5, and even chapter 5 works about 1 time in 10 or so. It appears to always work fine in the browser. I suspect it's some kind of strange connection issue that the browsers know how to deal with but python doesn't.

tenhawkpresents.com has a history of having weird problems--there's one story where one particular chapter will regularly take as much as 5 minutes to finish and close the connection, even in the browser. (this one, if you're curious)

I've tried several different things, but I don't know that I'll be able to solve it. That story is completed anyway, so unless there's evidence it's more wide spread, I'm inclined to ignore it. I saved a epub of that story from one of the times it did work if you'd like it.

  • Fix for whofic.com.
  • Don't include empty string dc:subject tags in epub.
  • Set custom column only if there's a value (mostly for int/float columns).

(It may take an hour or so for the calibre plugin updater to notice the update.)

Jimm, I've been getting this message on occasion when doing a mass download of individual books using the get links from webpage function on both AO3 and FFN. I can't reliably reproduce the issue, sadly, but it seems to be related to large downloads at once. Something makes the add/update process die, creating a number of empty books, before FFDL gets to calling the Generate Cover plugin. Any idea what's happening here?

I've been finding the GrabMyBooks extension to be pretty handy for dealing with random stories I come across in my travels of the portion of the web not supported by FFDL. It lets one save multiple pages as chapters in one epub, so you can skip the need to splice it all together afterward, and it's pretty good at isolating the section of the web page you're interested in and stripping out all the banners and sidebars and footers and whatnot.

@JimmXinu: Thanks, I'll give it a whirl. Going to be tricky finding test cases where I've got an old verison of a story that's been updated in the middle since I downloaded it, I'll do surgery on some stories if I have to.

@KayLee: There's also Squee!Books. Not quite as handy as GrabMyBooks though, but the default formatting produced is slightly prettier, if memory serves.

Not so bad sometimes It needs an update it rips a ton of trash as well images, headers, buttons, links sometimes the page's formatting / CSS sheet I haven't been able to upload HTML files to it. Tons of little problems good for LJs fics, although it seems some people have asked her to disable support for their fics. http://www.squeebook.net/

SqueeBooks fits well if you just use direct copy and paste actually. To get around the trash data I usually run Readability on the page, and copy-paste from there. C+P is faster than waiting for the application to do its thing, as far as I can tell.

Going slightly off topic: How do you all tidy up AO3's tag for your libraries? I like having their canonical tags and some of the more commonly used freeform/additional tags, particularly for kinks and such, but there's a lot of single use cruft along with the useful stuff. It's driving me nuts.
