Patricia Cornwell
I had been reading the Scarpetta series for quite some time, I had read the first fifteen which were published between 1990 and 2007. I hated to see that Cornwell's characters had gotten quite a bit nurotic and her writting seemed to have gone down hill. What are your oppinions of her later books? Are the characters as strange as they were in Book of the Dead?

Great series at the start, but it got seriously weird. When she started writing them in the present tense, that was the end for me.

I was a big fan, but I think her writing suffered when she was going through her personal problems. I hope she gets back on track in the future so that I can again enjoy her books.

Her most recent books are improving in structure (maybe she has a competent editor) but the characters are still weird - and the stories/action still seriously wacked out & paranoid.

Hated it when I picked up one of her later books in a library and read one chapter. I was sorry to see the Pete Marino had tried to rape his best pal, Scarpetta.

yeah, I hadn't read any of this series, and was reading this thread to see if the series would interest me. Guess I won't bother now, it's pretty hard to unsee a spoiler like that.

My sister loves her books. If she only reads one book a year it will be her latest. I tried the first book, and honestly hated it. The amount of time she wastes describing what she is eating, the weather and the view actually puts GRMM to shame. I still remember thinking GRMM going on and on over describing a meal, and telling myself he was at least not as bad as Patrica Cornwell.
