Dropbox?

Hi everyone, what is this "Dropbox" that several people have in their signature?

Thanks.

It is a place to load your documents that will sync to all of your devices with the same files. There is a nice video at www.dropbox.com that explains how it works.

I used it extensively last fall when my son was in Pop Warner football. I took pictures of the games, and instead of email them to other parents, I set them up on dropbox and other parents were able to log on and see them and download them.

Dropbox rocks. Simple on the outside, incredibly complex on the inside.

From what I have seen, box.com does not have the same functionality as dropbox or sugarsync. Sugarsync is really cool. Dropbox is about the same.

I picked SugarSync, mostly because it allowed me to chose which directories to synchronize.

I prefer SugarSync myself, especially as you get 5Gb to start with instead of the 2Gb you get from Dropbox. I still use Dropbox, with more than one cloud storage system, I can make a better split of what files go where.

Box.com is also good if you are big into mobile computing (50Gb is nothing to be sniffed at). Even if you are not, you can link it to a PC (at least you can in Windows) and use it as a network drive.

You also get more space (and the one who recommended the service) for Dropbox and SugarSync users, hence the signature.

That's true.

So by clicking on one of the links on our signitures, we both benefit from a bit more space (256Mb for Dropbox and 500Mb for SugarSync for each recomendation).

I've enjoyed PogoPlug for an online service as well as a roll-your-own-in-house cloud storage service.

Is that box.com 50GB available in any way for non-Android users?

If you follow these directions, you can mount Box as a network drive in Windows Explorer.

I think the question is if it's possible for non-Android users to take advantage of that 50GB offer and not how to get the Box app itself on other devices.

@djulian
Sorry. No idea. I already have a 50GB Box account care of the HP TouchPad. They also offered it back in October for iOS. If you have a friend with an Android device, perhaps you can borrow it just for the purpose of creating a Box.net account and then just delete the app from their device afterwards?
