unregister device

Am I correct in thinking that Kobo doesn't seem to allow you to remotely disconnect devices?

But suppose you lose your ereader or it gets stolen: doesn't that mean that from that point on, anyone possessing your device will be able to read all the books in your account, and even worse: will be able to buy new ones on the device with your credit card being charged?

Shouldn't Kobo have some interface where it allows you to disconnect devices from a central hub on a web page or something?
Or is there some other way to prevent the above scenario?

Yes. Except suppose you have two or three Kobo devices, and one of them gets lost, and you want to keep using the others.

Create a new account for the others.
Also, of course, always download and deDRM/deACSM so as to have backups of all ebooks bought anywhere.

Also simply don't have a real email address on the registration setup, then set SideloadedMode=true. Manage with Calibre (which can sync Kobos via Calibre and Kobo Utilities).

I have two phones. The old one has the SMS TFA and never leaves the house. The other one that goes outdoors has nothing with any payment methods. It's not used for banking, nor have any websites go log-ins. It's disposable. I also have a "disposable" 4.7″ eink ereader that has no Wifi or account.

It's putting the burden on the user. It would be better of course, if Kobo allowed you to remove devices from the account via a central hub, as is possible with android devices and also Amazon devices and apps.

Yes, I believe Amazon has that.

That's fraught too if someone gets access to that. Google does what Google does to encourage you to register and use only one account to track you more easily.

I'm not against that idea.

Amazon has changed how devices are registered and unregistered and reporting it lost or stolen is a problem, because if it turns up, it's blacklisted and crippled forever.

I don't know about that. The way it works now, any device with your username and password has access to your account. In order to "deregister" a device, each Kobo would need to have some sort of unique ID so that Kobo could tell each unit apart and therefore not allow it to connect to your account, even if it still had your account credentials in it. IMO changing your password is the better solution for a lost or stolen device.
