Question Epub output: no header, no footer and numbered sections.
Hi

I have an issue with my epub. It's driving me crazy.
Files seem ok, no validation errors.
I checked everything and I can't understand what is wrong.

Sigil version: 0.7.4

I enclosed 2 picture about what I get (get) and what I would (want).

I really hope someone can help me

Validation only prove that your garbage is syntactically correct

You did not show small code snips (avoids copyright violation questions)
(page) Headers and Footers are not a normal option in a EPUB


1) Those may be pictures. OCR needed before it is a reflowable EPUB
2) (middle) the right number may be the ADE (MRSDK) supplied block# at runtime

Very few ereaders actually support headers and footers. Since you appear to have a working book, why don't you reverse-engineer the styles used in that book?

If you've already done that, post a sample page and the relevant styles.

The second image screenshots are from ebooks I bought, and, as you can see, in those header and footers work.
It's more than a week I'm consuming my brain over this issue. I even compared my work with the ones of 4 different publishers and found nothing different in them.
It must be something in the toc or in the opf file, but I can't find what it is.Everything looksright. Maybe some hidden Sigil settings?

Is this an excerpt from a commercial Kobo kepub book with working headers and footers or did you use the same style names for your book?

Either way the sample is worthless without the stylesheet and javascript files that it links to.

There are no hidden Sigil header/footer settings, however, kepub files are ePub3 files which Sigil doesn't support (yet).

If you've copied the stylesheet and javascript file(s) from the working kepub file to your book, you'll have to export it as an ePub3 file with the ePub3 output plugin.

I am not new to html, but I am to ebook. And you are right about the javascript file. I added it yesterday, so as all those "KoboSpan" I confess I don't know what they are for.
But deleting the kobo.js and all the Kobospans, I get just the same result. So I suppose the answer is not there.

I don't understand what's the trick.
You have no idea how many tests I have made so far.

AFAIK, headers and footers are a Kobo-specific feature that requires you to convert your book to an kepub with a Calibre kepub plugin.

For more details search the Kobo forum for kepub.

This difference between your 2 pics is quite simple.
get.jpg is an example of a Kobo displaying a standard epub with the Adobe renderer. The 'Page x of y' at the bottom is standard. The other numbers you've ringed are also Adobe page numbers. You can switch those off in Settings - Reading settings - Show Adobe page numbers.

want.jpg is an example of a Kobo displaying a kepub (Kobos own special epub format) with the Access renderer. If you buy direct from Kobo kepub is their preferred format.

Every Kobo has both the Adobe and Access renderers and you choose which one you want to use by sending plain epubs or Kobo-style kepubs to your Kobo device.

If you're building your own epubs you can use calibre to convert standard epub to kepub.
