bravo_update help

I'm rooted (1003 SN/Firmware 1.4.2) and I've got bravo_update.dat on my microSD, but damned if I can start the update process.

I turn off the nook (long-press power) then

1. press & hold down the upper-right '<' button
2. press power.

I never see any 'checking for update' message. It goes to starting up each time.

Help!

I'm just guessing, but you don't have the signed version on your SD card do you?

Skip to Step #4 if you're already using a rooted nook.
I need a signed version?

I muddled through...

I ended up manually installing the apps. Everything seems to be working OK.

Interesting problem. You DON"T want the signed version. Let us know if you ever get this problem resolved. A nook with 1.0.0 B&N firmware and nookDev newer apps is certainly going to be strange.

It's one of those things. I'd like to know when the "message" pops up to tell you to let go of the "<" key. I never saw it.

I didn't see anything on nookdev that indicated the kernel was replaced in the rom. It would be a kindness if you could issue the command: "adb shell uname -a" and see what kernel you're running.

The stock kernel gives up:
"Linux localhost 2.6.27-svn21448 #1 Mon Aug 2 23:02:08 PDT 2010 armv6l GNU/Linux"

I had to try a couple times because my nook would restart instead of turning off totally. once it's off totally, holding down the < button and then pressing the power button on top should work.

the default "device is starting up" screen should never appear. it should be the "update in progress" the first thing you see.

I have 1453 sideloaded books on my nook. I fought the nook tooth and naid to get it to recognize all those books but finally got it down to a science. That gives me and incredible number of My Documents menu pages to click through to find a book so I decided to try softrooting and using the nookdevs my library app instead. I have one of the earlier (SN 10029...) nooks running 1.4.0 so I downloaded the 1.0.0 file and the 2.4.1 file and went through the process.

I encountered no problems getting the loads to take but my problem is that neither the B&N My Documents app nor the nookdevs My Library app will now see all of my books. The B&N sees all of my B&N books pluse 902 of my sideloaded books while the nookdevs app sees all of the B&N books but only 894 of my sideloaded books.

Has anyone else experience this problem of the entire library not being read? If so did they overcome it short of reloading the B&N software?

My guess is that you have the old version of nookLibrary. Go back to nookdev and add the newer version of the library. It is significantly better than the original.

Unfortunately, the 2.4.1 update has quite a few older apps.

Much appreciated, I will try that next.

Sorry I missed your request earlier. I am not as advanced as you are, when I run that command, the DOS window opens and closes too fast to read. If you would give me a precise method of running the adb command, I will give it a try. my rooting is done with Android Commander so if there is a way to get what you want there, let me know. I use Vista

Hey, thanks anyway, but I was able to decompress the nookdev rom and it does indeed replace the stock kernel.

Hey, I know this is an old topic but have the same problem and couldn't find any other information about this on the web. And I am literally going insane!! I've tried more than 60 times with 3 different microSD cards. I have no idea what I am doing wrong or if it's just my bad luck... Please help!
