Hi guys,

I'm glad this is working for some people. My Kindle 3 wifi with firmware 3.2.1 (non-KSO) arrived today and I just tried the jailbreak procedure six times in a row---no luck. The update fails (exclamation point) after less than one minute, every time. There's a "U007" code in the lower left-hand corner, if that means anything.

I did try renaming documents and system to .bak, but that didn't help.

I'm on Linux. Maybe it's faster or slower to recognize and mount the drive? Doesn't seem likely, but it's all I've got :|

I assume you copy both the "install" and "uninstall" bin files over? The readme didn't say.

Yeah I have a Kindle 3 3.2.1 and turned off the wireless and renamed my documents folder to something else. Hack worked the first time

I just picked up a K3, but it came with 3.2 not 3.2.1, should I just wait for it to update, or is there some method to do this before that upgrade happens?

Has someone with special offer used this jailbreak? If you Jailbreak and apply ss hack, can you have custom screen saver. Will it still show the ads in the home screen?

You can apply the jailbreak and the SS hack, but they SS hack will not work.

I tried installing the break, thought it worked, but don't know how to tell if it did (I didn't get a message screen either way). I tried it again, didn't see the update choice (a reboot then showed a failed update); tried the uninstall, same thing. perhaps it is a timing related issue (I'm on Windows, if it makes any difference).

Anyway ... in the process, I seem to have lost all my ads and it wants me to enable wifi to get them back. Thing is, wifi is on. Do I just need to wait a while and see if the hidden adunits get reloaded (I know it exists, but haven't figured out a way to see it, from windows). Or, should I de-register and re-register to get them back? Or, reset to factory defaults? Or try the uninstall again?

At this point: wifi works fine, I can copy books onto/off fine, archive is fine, but my special offers are all gone. I have no idea if the jailbreak worked or not.

Edit to add: a de-register/register didn't fix the ads, but a reset to factory defaults, followed by re-registering did get it functional again. I'd appreciate any assistance in detecting if the temporary hack worked (and if not, any tips on success).

Earlier today I read a post somewhere on this forum with a Windows (DOS) batch command to make it easier to copy the JB file as soon as the Kindle device is recognized. Now, I cannot find that post. Does anyone else remember it or know where it is?

[edit] never mind... it was in a comment on Yifan's page.

I have tried the jailbreak on my KSO 3G version few times but could not make it to work.

Following change can make the jailbreak process a bit more reliable. I may be completely wrong and my idea may not make any sense.

Instead of doing "Update your Kindle" if we do a simple "Restart", on restart the kindle will see the bin file and try to load the update. Since in this case the kindle will initiate the update process id will be within a smaller range and will increase the success rate.

Again I am very new to Kindle world. Forgive me if I am wrong.
