What does a location number indicate in book from amazon? I think that the referr to the number of lines in the text of the book, location 3714 would mean that i am reading the 3714th line of text from the start of the book.

Yeah, that's all wrong. Locations are little chunks of data. One location = 128 bytes (I think... someone will come along and stomp all over me if that number's wrong) of source-data.

So location 3714 would be (3714 x 128) bytes from the beginning of the document (source not text).

That's correct. Locations are units of 128 bytes in the file.
