Tegra 2 problems?
Multiple sites are reporting that there are serious problems with the new Tegra 2 chip that will delay Android devices such as the Notion Ink Adam well into the fall. Some have since edited their original blogs to say that nVidia is denying that rumor, saying that they are already shipping to OEM's and Tegra 2 based product is on time.
Is this a cruel April Fool's joke? Does anyone know? I have been waiting, waiting, waiting for these devices. After the setback with SiPix screens, another with Tegra 2 would be too much to take. Last edited by gastan; 04-01-2010 at 10:34 PM. |

Sounds very much to me like another excuse from the Notion Ink team as to why their product isn't on sale. If there was a real problem, the major OEM's would of been the people involved...
LDBobbo - Asus is questionable? "Interesting" perspective. |

Asus hasn't done anything officially with Tegra 2 and has no scheduled short-term release date. They've done confirmations of future devices, but there's been no product launch or launch announcement. The only companies I'm aware of that have given anything officially are the small startups like Notion Ink. I may be mistaken though.

They've announced they'll be showing prototypes pretty shortly. The lack of product reflects on the small startups, NOT Nvidia.

Notion Ink haven't actually announced any delays have they, it was a couple of the other companies that we know about pushing their release dates back.

There are no announced delays at all.
But the Adam is supposedly only a few weeks away, and technical details and pricing is yet to be announced. Which, given the previous delays... |

The engadget article about this lists a couple of companies that have supposedly pushed back their release dates. http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/01/t...s-everythings/ |

Oh I see, they pushed back again since I last checked. My bad.
But none of the three have confirmed anything... |

The Adam has been pushed back several times.
Last news pointed to a Q3 release. (I know for a fact that even the biggest OEMs don't expect to launch PixelQ products until Q2.) Now there is talk of a 60-90 days delay, which means that the Adam will have to compete with a 2nd gen iPad. By that time it will be irrelevant. But even considering what we know, the Adam keeps showing up on every "iPad Alternatives" list. |

Yes I've read this to. Not good if it's true. Although NVIDIA is claiming that the rumours aren’t true and everything is “on track” with Tegra 2.

I'll just point out again that all the sites are still linking back to the single Slashgear article. We have had no official confirmations of delays from anyone, and the official word from Nvidia is that there are no delays.
Also, whenever the Adam comes out it will still be a viable iPad alternative. If this is after a second generation iPad is released then, yes, it may have fewer advantages over the iPad, but that won't stop it being a viable alternative. Graham |
