P.S. There is another version up on MobileRead, but according the PG this is a new version in the last 24 hours of the posting of this one. The HTML is there now. So my guess is that it is a finished edition as far as PG is concerned.

Er, this was published as a novel, and I have an old Ace PB edition of it...

This one was reproduced from the serial in Amazing Stories in 1959. If someone does a version based on a book publication, PG will release it separately.

As an example, there are two different versions of H. Beam Piper's Uller Uprising on PG, one (as "Ullr Uprising") from a magazine publication, and the other scanned from an Ace PB.)

Only the magazine versions are PD for E. E. Smith. The recent repost to PG is probably only a fix to the text.

The fix to the text appears to be flawed...

As others have noticed, inadequate proofreading seems to be a major problem with ebooks. Even Project Gutenberg, with its all its volunteers, is not immune.

I'm not sure where the quote came from, but it doesn't seem to be in the PG text. While I haven't read it in proofreading detail, it seems to be pretty good.

This text you have here is not part of the book. If it is, I'd like to see where you found it. I've searched and nothing. Not even close.

The quote you put up showing that the fix is flawed is puzzling as what you posted is NOT in the text. So how could that be flawed? What the heck are you reading?

I just checked the original PG version that was posted here and it's also doe snot have that quote.

Probably the manybooks version. They snatch the text before Distributed Proofreaders has finished it.

Er, the quote is from your original post in this thread, Jon; so the question is where you got it from

The text that's not in error is not in the book as well. I searched for "the ship was called" and found nothing for that phrase.

Perhaps I'm missing something here, but if you read the original post in this thread, that "the ship was called..." quote is in there. Where did that quote come from? It was you who quoted it, was it not?

DUH! Yeah. I got it from Fantastic Fiction. I didn't proofread it at all. That blurb did not come from the book at all.
