You're right - that is a strange thing for such a popular author.

I've given up all hope of Takami Kōshun's Battle Royale (バトル・ロワイアル) ever being available digitally in my location (and I don't circumvent geo-blocks). According to GoodReads, there are three ebook editions in circulation; it's incredibly unfortunate that I don't have legal access to any of them.

If you can read Japanese, do you not know anyone in Japan who could buy it for you?

My Japanese is fairly patchy. I'll eventually "suck it up" and buy the book, in English and on paper.

None of the Little House books is PD in the US, including Big Woods. Except for the posthumous The First Four Years, they are PD in Canada and MR used to host them, absent the Garth Williams illustrations, of course.

I have the first edition in Hardcover. I would like it in ebook, but I doubt that will ever happen.

Specialist books like this are probably unlikely to ever make it as ebooks; the cost of the conversion wouldn't be economically viable. The same is true for most of my Egyptology books.

Carl Sandburg's Abraham Lincoln: The Prairie Years

I'm not holding my breath for that as an ebook (I would certainly asphyxiate), but I am holding on to my dead tree version with the disintegrating pages...

You can get the audiobook version of Abraham Lincoln: The Prairie Years and the War Years
for only $10.49. That's 44 hours of listening pleasure, whatta deal! And with a rating of 4.6 stars, it's presumably pretty good.

(I've got it, but have yet to cue it up.)

The text of the books will be PD in life+70 countries in 2018, and in the US starting from 2028.

Paul, Laura Ingalls Wilder died in 1957, so wouldn't Life+70 imply PD in 2028? Yes to when the books start going PD in the US, as LHitBW was published in 1932.

Yes, you're completely right. I concentrated so much on getting the single digit right I forgot to double-check the decade!

Hey - so in 2028 The Little House in the Big Woods will be PD in the US as well as in life+70 countries.

Robert Caro's The Powerbroker--was really surprised when it was finally issued in the UK this year, but without an e-book version.

At least two versions of the Little House books have popped up briefly on Amazon in the last 5 years though must have been illegal as they disappeared very quickly once a kerfluffle started up in the kindle forum and they were reported.

I've given up on the complete Vlad Taltos series by Steven Brust ever coming out as eBooks. The series was moved to a different publisher and some of the first books are not in eBook and most likely never will be.

I'm not sure what the deal is with the first.
Ebooks in this series came & went in the Kindle store - I'm assuming they were not legit copies from her estate.
