Alt Text in epub

How important is it for accessibility when InDesign exports images based on default file names? I really hate the whole concept of specs and in practice it's a big waste of time because no ereader I'm aware off that allows users to simply listen to alt text by turning off load images/video/audio...

Realistically, how many actually spend the time to add proper meaningful alt tag into epubs?

Software for the blind uses this in its read aloud features. However, regular ePub supported devices are unlikely to use this, and generally can't turn off pictures anyway, although it they support this they are likely to support alternate text in lieu of pictures.

To repeat what I said in that thread, you can often simply use alt="", only when the image (or the fact that there is an image) is needed for understanding the text you should provide a meaningful alt attribute.
