SIM Slot

Has anyone else noticed the PEZ has a SIM slot?

Unless you have a Chinese version then you only have a place for a SIM slot. This is used for a device id on the Chinese versions for DRM I believe.

Chinese version, no. Odd they'd call the slot "SIM," but I know it's not enabled so no worries there.

It does cause one to really wonder though.

It's not uncommon to use 'standard' designs for boards, i.e. ones that come from the chipset suppliers for example, then only populate the features you want in your device when you are doing a design.

Single board (and cases) with unpopulated (No Load) parts locations is very standard in electronic products that are built for multiple world markets.
Frequencies, frame rates, mains voltages are all different, thus different parts get placed depending on the market destination. (missing)Premium options are another reason some spaces may be open.
