It's possible to download updates (and everything else) using a normal web browser. Depending on your expertise level it may be relatively simple or very hard. Please read "Disable BigBrother features" in Developers' corner, especially part where I describe todo server. Maybe somebody can provide step-by-step instructions.

Here is basic outline:

1) Install Kindle client SSL certificate into your favorite web browser
2) Get todo item list: https://todo-g7g.amazon.com/FionaTod...10&prl_rev=402
3) Find a key for firmware update item, and use this URL to download it:
https://cde-g7g.amazon.com/FionaCDES...patchVersion=2
4) Make sure file extension is bin, copy it to your Kindle, perform manual update

Thanks for this. Will try this when (or if) we get a significant firmware upgrade though it's great to know that there is a way!
