'1951. Brighton. With the excitement of the war over and the Nazis brought to justice at Nuremberg, Mirabelle Bevan (retired Secret Service) thinks her skills are no longer required. After the death of her lover she moves to the seaside to put the past behind her and takes a job as a secretary at a debt collection agency run by the charismatic Big Ben McGuigan. But when confronted by the case of Romana Laszlo, a pregnant Hungarian refugee, Mirabelle discovers that her specialist knowledge is vital. Less than two hours from when you posted it. Of course it could have gone on sale sometime yesterday.

Been meaning to check out the Romanian crime books published by Profusion Books - this one just dropped to $1.50 on Amazon. Has some good reviews on Goodreads, including one from author Quentin Bates.
Anatomical Clues by Oana Stoica-Mujea "Iolanda Stireanu is a brilliant criminal investigator. She is also crippled by mental instability and the fact that she can’t leave her flat. Anatomical Clues is a gripping, grotesque exploration of damaged psychologies - a tale, which, like Iolanda, will creep into your head and stay there." (Mike Phillips) "The eyes had been plucked and laid carefully on the living room table, in between two withered roses. Everything was in perfect order, and it was just these eyes which didn’t fit with the rest of the picture. On the other hand, they were not strikingly out of place. There was, however, no sign of the body to which they must have belonged." Goodreads page |

Currently free on Amazon - Profiler (Fang Mu (Eastern Crimes)
- Lei Mi 'A perfect mix between Chinese versions of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Silence of the Lambs. Three young women are found dead one after another in Jiangbin City, each horribly murdered and disemboweled in her home. Police investigations reveal that the killer is a monster who likes to mix milk together with human blood—and then drink it. Is he some kind of immortal vampire, straight out of legend? A series of four rape and murder cases surface in Changhong City. All of the victims are white-collar workers between the ages of twenty-five and thirty. A graduate student at the top of his class suddenly goes mad and begins attacking his friends and fellow classmates. After a succession of seemingly unrelated homicides occurring not far from the city, the police are still completely at a loss. A television viewer sends in a letter with a sketch of what he claims is the murderer's face. Intrigued, the chief of the Public Security Bureau seeks out the author of the letter, and to his surprise it is a reticent, anti-social university student—Fang Mu. After the killer is executed, however, another spate of homicides begins to crop up. Was Fang Mu mistaken? Following deductive reasoning, he realizes that the ultimate victim will be Fang Mu himself. Can he "profile" this monster and discover his true identity before it's too late?' I recently enjoyed Boy in the Suitcase, Lene Kaaberbol, (Amazon US) so I've got another Soho Crime book, the Black Mile, Mark Dawson (Amazon US).
Boy in the Suitcase is USD 1.99 Black Mile is USD 99cents Amazon's Soho Crime collection looks interesting, and some of it is quite cheap Last edited by Lynx-lynx; 08-09-2013 at 12:10 AM. |
