Issue with news source on sony readers

I'm using the latest version of calibre 0.7.37, and when I have calibre download from alternet.org into epub, the epub looks fine in calibre, but when i open it in the sony reader software or on my sony prs-505, all of the pages are blank, they just have the navigation menu on each page. if i was to convert the epub to lrf, and convert that back to epub, then the epub works and is mostly fine (though it has a weird underlining issue).
is there any possibility of this being fixed so i can download epubs directly?

Calibre doesn't download book files, so it seems that you are saying that your reader won't display an epub that you downloaded from alternet.org. If so, then this is something you should be discussing with the epub's makers.

If you are saying something else, e.g., calibre is involved in creating the original epub, then you need to provide more details.

Calibre doesn't download book files,
It does fetch news via recipes. The OP might want this thread moved to the Calibre Recipes forum.

It seems there is some html being downloaded by the recipe that is screwing up the display on your 505.

What does it look like as a lrf file on your reader?

I saw this in Recipes, but I'll post here. It's not directly a recipe issue. As you suggested, it's an incompatability between site code html and his device. If he can figure out what his device hates about the html on that site, it can likely be fixed by recipe, but it would need a device guru to figure out the first issue, then a recipe guru to fix the recipe code for his device in a way that doesn't impact others who use the recipe. I doubt anyone in Recipes will know the answer to the underlying problem.

You can always just start removing html from the problem epub using Sigil until the epub works on your device. Once you've found where the problem is, come back to recipes, and perhaps we can help there.
