Getting rid of Reading Life
I bought the VOX for my wife, (computer illiterate) so she wouldn't need to turn on the light in the middle of the night and keep me awake, but she wouldn't use it because the act of turning the page would often bring up the Face Book app. Neither of us are the least bit interested in discussing our reading with anyone on Face Book, or keeping track of how many pages we have read.
How do I get rid of the connections to these intrusive features? Lol, I did a search and it led me back to this post. Endless loops: the bane of my computer life. Last edited by wwpierre; 03-14-2012 at 03:43 PM. |

doesn't happen to me, but I wonder if turning off wifi would stop it.
maybe try tapping the screen in different spots and that won't bring up facebook. |

You can't completely get rid of Reading Life, but in the Kobo reader settings, be sure to uncheck the items in Social Settings (people reading book icon) and uncheck the appropriate boxes in Notifications (flag icon). Unfortunately, you still can't stop the Reading Life "curtain" from coming down if you swipe a page down from too high up.
As for reading at night, the night mode even with the brightness turned down to minimum is still hard on the eyes and lights up the room at night. You should download and install Screen Filter to be able to further dim the screen. Since Kobo increased the minimum brightness available in one of the updates, I find Screen Filter is hardly enough. I use Aldiko for a reader, which has its own brightness control that goes a lot lower than Kobo's. The Aldiko reader also has more useful features than Kobo's. |

Thanks, oldyellr. It is a tribute to you that my Firefox dictionary now recognizes you.
In any case, I can find neither the Social Settings icon or the flag icon. I'm not concerned about the brightness of the screen, it is the brightness of the light at the head of our bed that bothers me. I just want Hanne to use the reader, which she won't do if it acts in the least like she doesn't think it should. (The world in general doesn't live up to her standards. This was an endearing trait when we began out life together, but has become grating on the senses after 35+ years.) |

Press the Menu (middle) button on the Vox Press Settings (gear) on the menu that comes up Now you see some icons on the left of your screen as I described. Quote:
