How do I access footnotes?

The free Crossway ESV Bible has footnotes like this[42]. On my K2 I can move the cursor there, press the joystick to jump to the footnote text, then press Back to return to where I was.

But on my Fire, I can't seem to find any way to jump to the footnote. Is there a way?

Also, the search functionality is broken in at least two ways:

1. It's slow because the book isn't indexed, and
2. You can't jump to a result and then go Back to the search results.

It baffles me why Amazon would make their high-end Kindle slower and clunkier than earlier ones. Do you think it's just to save the time and memory that building and storing the index would require?

I've never seen a Kindle Fire, but it is a touch screen device. That would normally mean that you simply tap a hyperlink to activate it. Does this not work?

Bear in mind that the Fire really isn't a "high-end Kindle". It's not a dedicated bookreader; it's a cheap tablet which can be used for book-reading.

The footnote should be displayed as a link which responds to a touch/tap for viewing.

It does not work. The [N] footnote reference is displayed in blue, which makes it look like a link, but tapping it does nothing. Pressing and holding it does nothing. I've also noticed that it's impossible to select just the link; the minimum selection will always include the word before or after it.

I just tried using Kindle for Mac 1.9.1, and it exhibits the same behavior as the Fire. Perhaps "notes" are implemented differently on the Fire and the Kindle apps than they are on the K2? Whatever the reason, the result is a book that works on some Kindle platforms but not others.

It must have something to do with the way in which your book (Bible) is formatted -- the Fire does not behave differently. I do not have any problem with viewing footnotes. When I touch the blue link the associated footnote appears.
