Protect eBook Files with "Read Only" designations..

I have been searching for the answer to this one in the Posts. However, I have not found anything. I would like to suggest (or ask if it is possible) to protect all of my work in proofing, and spell checking, and formatting an eBook.

Currently, I have added a “Status” user’s column to Calibre to handle this. However, I would like to ‘Protect’ my finished eBooks with a lock so that no editing or conversions can be made to the eBook unless they are changed from “Read Only” to “Read/Write” status.

Thank you for your time.

@WizkidTX - some (many) Windows/OSX/Linux ebook viewer programs write to the format files, including the calibre's ebook-viewer, they write things like last position, bookmarks, annotations etc.

Maybe you could keep Status:finished and Status:unfinished books in separate Virtual Libraries, and/or make use of the Column Colouring and/or Column Icon features in Preferences->Look and Feel to highlight Status:finished books

BR

I was not specifically referring to the file property "Read" and "Read/Write" permissions. I think it would be better if the Calibre’s Database handled that.

What I was looking for is a way to "lock" my completed books so that no changes could be made to the eBook files by the user while in Calibre.

Thanks,

There are so many ways a book can get changed that 'blocking' has little chance of success.

Plugins (many)
Polish
the user opening the book folder and using a 3rd party program

A backup is the only way to have a 'pure' copy

Use a custom column to remind you if it should be touched.

If you are afraid of others touching it, the solution is to not give them access at all.
