Sweden's New Political party- The "Pirate Party"

I had no idea people felt so strongly about this issue. According to this article, the Pirate Party (who believes pirating books, music, movies etc. is okay and wants to change the intellectual property laws) is currently branching out from Sweden and hoping to establish itself in Utah, USA.....

One does have to wonder who these people imagine are going to create all this content for them to obtain without paying for it if obtaining it freely were to become legal.

What really needs to be done is to take a good look at Copyright Laws and Fair use Laws and revamp them for the current times. Fair Usage Laws really need to be defined. There are way too many ambiguities.

Sometimes the only way to bring a problem to public attention is to express extreme opinions. The leaders of the party for sure know that their idea is unsustainable.

The danger is that there are people who end up actually believing the crazy stuff that has been expressed just a provocation :-)

Sorry guys, I had no idea it was that old. I made a mistake. I saw in the "related threads" and I opened it in another tab, then I forgot where I had found it and I assumed it was one of the latest threads I had opened in other tabs.

Over in the "The Price of Exclusivity" similar ideas are being brought out. Essentially not wanting to allow an author/owner of a product to have an exclusive deal with a Seller.

Basically some people are preaching that ownership is not in the interest of humanity. This is certainly not unusual or new.

These kinds of thinkers believed that man would produce, work, develop, invent and persevere for the "common good."

Their German offshoot is currently big news. They just entered the Berlin City parliament (the city also has the status as a German state) with a result of 8.9% and they hover around 7% in national polls.

Well I don´t exactly remember what Falkvinge said about child pornograthy, but please be aware that in Sweden even cartoons (such as manga) kan be considered kiddie porn even if it is not clear if the "person" actually is underaged. It is enough if the (cartooned) person looks underaged, or can be mistaken for underaged.

A scientist and specialist of manga was actully convicted for this "crime".

You think nobody would create anything if copyright law didn't protect them for 50, 70, 100 years? (name your country) Look at how (and for how long) patents work and how much developing some of them actually costs.
