PocketBook 360 Plus
Engadget has a post (with video) of the "as yet unreleased PocketBook 360 Plus e-reader". It apparently features "Pearl E Ink display and Freescale processor".

Seems like they won't be changing the winner formula (aka the design) but they'll add the necessary improvements. I picture this will make some people happy with PB again!

Can't see how this will make us happy, while people are invested in developing new devices and porting doom, it'll probably result with us poor costumers of "older" models being more neglected.

I wonder whether the Pearl E Ink display will make a big difference for reading books (after all, a page with text needs only 2 colors, black and white)? For playing Doom this is, of course, better. But for boring folks like myself who only read on an ereader?

Well from some reviews I saw comparing the two, the most notable difference will be faster page loading.

Woh, it plays Doom!!! And in some s.f. future you might even be able to read ebooks on it. But of course that will require a firmware upgrade which is planned and coming soon after the release of the hardware (promise, promise)!

Yes, I agree that the Doom thing is silly (reminds me of an old cartoon of an engineer networking the refrigerator).
Speaking for myself, my ideal new eReader would be something similar to a 301+, but with a higher resolution (and maybe slightly larger, by reducing the bezel) display, no audio (and therefore hopefully thinner), an additional single page-forward button on the edge (slightly indented like the power button) -- and of course a rock-solid firmware (I don't have to reboot too often -- but would prefer not to at all -- especially as it involves removing the battery cover). |
