About Plucker
Plucker, actively maintained by the Plucker Team including David A. Desrosiers, is an open-source offline Web and e-book viewer for Palm OS and PPC-based handheld devices and PDAs, with support for Unix, Linux, Windows and Mac OSX. Its come a long way from a little hobbyist project from Mark Lillywhite in Australia to a project adopted by thousands of users, dozens of companies, and hundreds of other projects around the world.
Plucker includes programs that let you specify exactly what part of the World Wide Web you'd like to download onto your PDA (as long as they're in standard HTML or text format); these web pages are then processed, compressed, and transferred to the PDA for viewing by the Plucker viewer. I am 2 or 3 of 9.. </Borg>
I'm not "The Maintainer", I'm just one of about 9 core contributors to the project. I just happen to maintain the website and CVS for the project, as well as add my insight, fixes, whatever here and there to keep the project moving forward... I authored the Email Reflector (allows you to use Plucker exclusively through email), and many other side-tools. The new website is going to be much more interactive and intuitive... Plucker 2.0 is our next stop, stay tuned!
Alexander, can you please edit that to say "actively maintained by the Plucker Team" or something similar? Everyone on the team deserves credit. The project wouldn't be successful without the contributions of dozens and hundreds of others who have given their insight over the years. We just passed the 6-year milestone, and are still going strong! Also, please point the download links back to our website, since that will always carry the most-recent version, as many of us (developers) are moving away from relying upon PalmGear for redistribution. For some more eye-candy, don't forget to check out my Plucker Code Projects page. Maybe they should have used one of the spiffy color documents for that screenshot instead of the older black & white Alice in Wonderland screenshot <grin>. Great news though, and keeps the inertia going! Last edited by hacker; 06-10-2005 at 10:34 AM. |
