Vista install fails
Trying to install latest version on Dell Inspiron 1525 running Vista Home Premium. Downloaded files from Calibre website and also from SourceForge. Both failed to install with the following error message:
WINDOWS INSTALLER: - This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package.

Now what?

I have the same laptop, with the same Vista. I had no problems with mine, but perhaps someone here will answer your question soon.

I would suspect a corrupt download - although that seems strange if you tried from two different places.

It might be worth checking the download size - it should be around 26.4MB. I have had occassion where IE appeared to complete a download but it had actually failed and the downloaded file was only a few KB.
